Introduction

ABO Technical Standards : Contributing Order to the Algal Industry

Technical Standards Committee Mission Set by ABO Bylaws:

  • Develop and advocate industry standards and best practices
  • Liaise with Members, Standards Organizations, and Government
  • Facilitate information flow between industry stakeholders
  • Review ABO technical positions and recommendations
  • Undertake special projects as directed by the ABO Board

2011 Objectives:

  • Issue Minimum Descriptive Language 4.0, Guidance to Evaluate Lifecycle Inputs and Outputs
  • Restructure the Technical Standards portion of the ABO website to allow for more resource posting and utility for the Technical Standards stakeholder community.
  • Through web site structure and addition of new Committee members prepare to address additional market sectors including food, feed, nutraceutical, and bio-based chemicals

Proposed Activities in 2012 and beyond:

  • Invite public comment and ideas for expansion of the MDL 4.0 created in 2011.
  • Recruit additional Committee members to further expand ABO’s experience in the market segments of food, feed, fuel, nutraceutical and bio-based chemicals.
  • Continue to identify, adapt, generate, and recommend specific measurement methodologies and guidelines that address ABO targeted markets for algal biomass.
  • Promote algal industry acceptance and utilization of ABO’s “Algal Green BoxTM” [MDL 4.0] framework of metrics and increase their linkage to partner industry metrics.
